Zain Donates 500 Chairs to Njala University College
Njala University College was on Monday 1st June 2009 presented with 500 chairs by Zain Africa’s Chief Executive Officer, Chris Gabriel, at their New England Ville campus. Making the presentation, Chris Gabriel said his company has contributed a lot to advancing education in the country and would continue to make it a cardinal undertaking in fulfilling Zain’s corporate social responsibility.
It could be recalled that the last time Chris Gabriel visited (October 2008), he presented huge water tanks to the Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone. It was a handy gesture at a time when the campus was running short of water and with fewer water storage facilities.
The 500 chairs presented to Njala University College were a prompt response to the latter’s request for sitting accommodation for its students. In his statement, Vice Chancellor of NUC, Prof. Rhodes, said in the last few months Zain has been very helpful to his institution. He recalled receiving several desktops and a laptop computer with modems for the college, noting that those donations were significantly impacting on the learning process in the college. For his part the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Bo Campus, Prof Mansaray said the chairs could not have come at a better time, adding that in the last few weeks lecturers and students were crying for more sitting accommodation.
Students Union President, Abu Bakarr Massaquioi, lauded the contribution of Zain towards improving the human resources of the country. He said Zain, being the mobile giant in Sierra Leone, ought to be commended not only for supporting Njala but for its general support in promoting education elsewhere in the country.
Earlier, Managing Director, Zain SL, Ted Sauti-Phiri, said he was delighted to be at Njala and he commended the college for producing fine talents some of whom were working for his company. He said Zain would continue to take its corporate social responsibility very seriously as that was a way to positively affect the lives of the communities where Zain operated.
