NASSIT does not operate alone!
Head of Public Affairs at the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) Mr. Peter Kenner has said in Freetown that “educating and sensitizing our various targeted public is critical to the sustainability of the Scheme and as an organization we do not operate as an island; we serve the people of Sierra Leone consulting them on and taking their interest into consideration on every decision we makeâ€.
The Director made this statement whilst reacting to reports in the media that the Trust doesn’t work in the interest of the people in the various development projects it undertakes. The Director reasoned that we may not get to talk to each and every member of our public/contributors but we surely as an institution have ways of ensuring that we make due consultations, engaging representatives of the contributors and the general public we have on the board, get to have meetings with the various stakeholders, organize public and radio talk shows where contributing members as well as members of the public get to contribute and air their opinions which we take very seriously in every step of the way during our investment and development strides. Â
Peter Kenner pointed out that “whilst NASSIT has been able to make a huge inroad in the formal sector of employment in the country, the untapped membership of the informal sector and the kind of services we provide†reiterating once more that like “any Social Security institutions the world over we are bound to be transparent, accountable to our members, and should have the capacity to resist pressures from our doubtful critics if we are to succeed.â€
Talking on their effectiveness in reaching out to their public, the Trust he said has mounted vigorous sensitization campaigns in all fronts using billboards, radio/TV discussions, jingles and promotional materials which why he said NASSIT is today a household name in Sierra Leone.
He revealed that as a follow up on our investment drive, a team including staff of NASSIT, members of the Fourth Estate, members of civil society and other stakeholders have been making on the spot check on the various projects the trust has invested in a bid to ensure that Management and the general public are fully kept abreast with developments in the Trust’s investment.
