A middle aged man charged for raping a 9 year old girl
A middle aged man, Lansana Koroma said to be in his fifties has been arrested and charged to court for allegedly raping a 9 year old girl in Freetown. According to Detective Sergeant Hassan Dumbuya, O/C Crime New England Ville Police Station, the incident took place at Hill Cut Road in Freetown and was reported on Friday 21st May 2010.
Sergeant Dumbuya, in speaking to Sierra Express Media said the occurrence of rape cases and unlawful carnal knowledge are on the increase in the entire community and that most of the cases are being settled at community level without exposing the perpetrators. He however stated that with the establishment of the family support unit (F.S.U) they no loner hesitate to send such matters to court for trial when once the get hold of such information.
He noted that the only way to stop such acts from frequently re-occurring is for the courts to be imposing appropriate penalty on criminals. He therefore called on the government, human rights organizations and residents of the New England, Sumanlia Town, Hill Cut Road, Brookfield, and Sorie Town communities to continue to help the police fight the high incidence of crime in their communities.
The victim’s Uncle, Ibrahim Sankoh, expressed his dismay on the way and manner people in society behave and treat under age girls, vowing that he will surely seek justice for his young niece.
