I.B. Kargbo angry over pilferage of free health care!
Minister of Information and Communication, Alhaji Ibrahim Ben Kargbo, has warned that the full penalty of the law will take its course if people, nurses or doctors pilfered with the free health care programme which is meant for lactating mothers, pregnant women and children under age 5 years old.
Minister I.B. Kargbo made this disclosure at a one day workshop held at the Youyi Building conference hall by the Ministry of Health last week. He noted that things are not going down well with the implementation of the free health care programme underscoring that there is a lot of professional misconduct in the charging of fees, theft of drugs in service delivery and discrimination in the service delivery.
Charles Mambu, of the Health for all coalition, stated among other things that our role is unique because they are part of the steering committee underlining that during the cause of monitoring they apprehended some suspects as people taking the free health care for what it is not meant for. He called on the police and judiciary to punish offenders speedily. Acting Anti Corruption Commissioner (ACC) Mr. Buya Kamara said that the ACC is in support of the current free health care initiative, since the promulgation of policing, the ACC has been working with other line Ministries. “As a commission we are ready to deal with any corrupt matters as we are working with civil society groups on the spot check, adding that in all hospitals monitoring is going to be key as intelligent outfit are out working seriously.†Effective collaboration is also going on, noting that accountability is a potential huge problem. He called for the strengthening of the Management system as providing malaria drugs is not enough, we need to clean up the environment.
He cautioned that delays are bound to undermine the system as the people deserve better. V.P Samuel Sam Sumana declared the workshop open and called on people to change their attitude for the good of Sierra Leone.Â
