Persons with Disability Endorse Alex Focus as Ambassador of Disabled
Persons With Disabilities in Freetown have endorsed Alex Focus as the new Ambassador of Persons with Disability in Sierra Leone. Alex Focus is one of the few Sierra Leoneans that have been supporting issues relating to PWDs for over ten years. The PWDs call on the Government of Sierra Leone to make him their Ambassador, who can represent them well at the national government, as he understands their plight.
According to them, Alex has been one of those who is familiar with their problems and will be able to articulate on their behalf. They called on the Government to charge him with the responsibility of an Ambassador so that he can well execute his dreams for Persons With Disabilities in Sierra Leone.
Many would ascribe the atmosphere to a political rally, as a result of the noise and excitement of these PWDs on the streets of Freetown.
Explaining the cause of the excitement, the Chairlady of the Freetown Cotton tree Street Disabled, Kadiatu Sillah, said “we have agreed to choose Alex Focus to be our Ambassador for Persons with Disability in Sierra Leone, because of his generosity and humanity to us”. She further referred to him as father to the disabled and that if he represents them, their suffering on the street will drastically reduce, as he has better plans of relocating them from the streets.
Describing the character of Alex Focus, as a Sierra Leonean who is passionate and is interested in issues of disability, George Wyndamone, one of the PWD members, said “We appreciate all the good things that Alex has been doing for us, He is one of the few Sierra Leoneans who believes in us and has always been supportive and helping us in the streets; many a time, people have been taking videos and pictures of us here, but no help has been brought for us, but he has never done such, rather, he has always visited and supported us even when we don’t ask him to”.
It is really difficult to see someone helping less privileged people with no political intention or receiving support from institutions to give to the disabled, but Alex has been doing it from his own pocket for over ten years. This is the only way that Alex Focus’s vision of support to the disabled can be adequately articulated.
