Hon Kadie Sesay vies for Deputy Women’s Leadership
Long-serving female Member of Parliament for Constituency 094 in Moyamba District, Hon Veronica Kadie Sesay is vying for election as Deputy National Leader.
If elected, Hon. Veronica Kadie Sesay will replace Madam Fatmata Bockarie, who has pitched tent with her boss, Fatmata Sawanneh as National Women’s Leader.
“Mommy Vero” as she is fondly called, promises to bring her experience in politics to benefit particularly the women and the grassroots of the party. “I will be a strong pillar of support to the women and work hand-in-glove with the women’s leader so that we will cater for the welfare of the women’s wing of the party”, she told her supporters.
As an experienced politician, Hon Kadie Sesay emphasises loyalty to leadership, which she said had guided her throughout her political career. She believes that the different roles if individuals in the party must be respected.
Hon Vero has been in Parliament under the ticket of the SLPP since 1996. She is fluent in both Mende and Themne, and is believed to be open-minded and a disciplinarian. During her career as a Member of Parliament, she had made valuable contributions in Oversight Committees which she served especially the Information and Communication and Trade and Industry Committees.
Becoming the deputy national women’s leader will undoubtedly add another feather to her political cap.
Lower level elections are still being conducted in the SLPP, which will be followed by the compilation of a delegates list before unveiling the date for a delegates’ conference.
The Women’s Wing and the Young Generation Wing form the Grassroots of the Party, which requires dedication and vibrancy.
Hon Veronica says that one of her key contributions to her district was the facilitation of the road from Moyamba junction to Moyamba.
Meanwhile, aspirants for national positions are criss-crossing the length and breadth of the country monitoring lower level elections and canvassing potential delegates.
