Complaints against Civil Registration and Verification

As the extended one week period for Civil Registration and Verification ended on Saturday, 22 May 2021, there has been a hue and cry by members of the public over serious lapses of the process.

Aggrieved members of the public called on the attention of the Consortium of Progressive Political Parties (COPPP) to the numerous problems that characterized the exercise despite the extension.

In addition to limited verification and registration centers, there are also complaints of limited computers allocated to centers and thin numbers of staff deployed at the centers.

“Computer malfunctioning is undermining the smooth registration and verification process”, said an irate man in one of the centers at Regent Village, adding that citizens were displeased with the slow pace of the exercise in various centres across the city.

The exercise is faced with huge constraints in centers like Churches and Mosques. Some members of the public accused the government of manipulating the process by not making certain materials available on time in various locations.

“Staff attitude in responding to citizens is not encouraging, which has adverse effect on the smooth operation of the process” complained an elderly woman at a center in Wilberforce Village.

It is apparent that the Western Area (Urban and Rural districts) is densely populated and requires huge human resource and adequate equipment to aid the successful outcome of the exercise.
