The late hours of Sunday 11th April, 2021 witnessed a massive celebration and jubilation in “Songo Colony” as it witnessed the first ever annual thanksgiving and marc past.

Residents including women and children where all over the community with smiling faces and are seen dancing to songs of brass band and expressing joy over what they referred to as a turnaround in the community education, with children and parent where all seen in exciting mood carrying school bags that contain school materials such as books, pens, rulers, pencils and a bowls full of sweets.  This was the first ever massive educational and transformational celebration in the Songo community, which has been deprived for far too long.

Like many other communities in Sierra Leone that are deprived of essential facilities such as schools, hospitals pure water supply etc., the Songo Colony in the Western Rural district, has long been neglected by governments and Non-Governmental Organizations in terms of social facilities like schools, medical access and other basic facilities since colonial days.

Out of passion, love, commitment and burning desire to provide education for less privileged children, the Vincent Hope Pre School was breed in the living room of late Mrs. Abigail Margaret Lilian Vincent Freeman during her stay in Songo in 1992 with 20 kindergartens during the civil war. The school has migrated from Songo to Hastings, to Benguema, and later returned to its origin in Songo.

The Vincent Hope School has been in existence for 29 years with no school structure or class rooms to accommodate children during school session

In a way of remembering her good works and celebrating the first annual school thanksgiving ceremony, and also as a way of maintaining her legacy, accomplish her dream and burning desire to provide education for less privileged children in Songo colony, children and family members of the late Mrs. Abigail Margaret Lilian Vincent Freeman have organized her 3rd memorial service on Sunday 11th April at the National Pentecostal Church Songo in remembrance of her, and also a thanksgiving ceremony for the school.

One of the Daughters of late Mrs Freeman has revealed to the community that  they had  provided a piece of land and would soon start the construction of a ten standard class room building for the Vincent Hope pre-school where they would relocate as their permanent school. Madam Winifred said that they as children of the late Mrs. Vincent Freeman are ready to continue with her legacy in promoting education.

In an interview with parents of pupils of the school, madam Memunatu said as a parent, she is happy with such development that has started in their community, and she is also pleased with the gifts presented to their children as a way of motivation. She said the bag and other school materials will serve as a great help to them and also as a motivation to their children.

The president of Sisters United said they as friends and children of Mrs Vincent have joined hands together to see that pupils of Vincent school get what is required of them.
