Unity In Diversity: The Way Out
Sierra Leoneans at home and abroad have welcome the wave of civility and maturity in our body politics exhibited by our two main political parties, the ruling Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) n and the main opposition, All Peoples Congress (APC) party in the just concluded Constituency 110 re-run election in the Western Rural district of Freetown.
This re-run election has been conducted for three times; 2018, 2019 and 2020 between SLPP and APC. It was hotly contested as the campaign period witnessed all the major political stakeholders in these two parties with words of war on each other.
However, the election was finally conducted on the 12th December 2020 between Josephine Jackson of the SLPP and Kadijatu Davies of the APC. On Monday 14th December 2020, the National Returning Officer of the National Electoral Commission (NEC), Mohamed K. Kanneh announced that Kadijatu Davies of the main opposition All Peoples Congress (APC) party is the winner of the Saturday polls and has been duly elected Member of Parliament.
Few minutes after the declaration by the national returning officer, the defeated candidate of the SLPP Josephine Jackson congratulated her main rival Kadie Davies and thanked the people of the constituency and members of her political party for the support. She assured the people of constituency 110 that all her election promises will be addressed. She even went to the house of Kadie Davies to congratulate her and took a photo with her.
On her Facebook page, First Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Mrs. Fatima Jabbe Maada Bio (in photo) wrote “Congratulations to Hon. Kadie Davies, wishing her well. Politics is not war and everyone has the right to support who they want. It is call democracy and I am so pleased that this time no one loss a sweat over election, we move”.
