As Covid-19 & 2019 Audit Reports Tabled In Parliament Sleepless Nights For ‘Racketeers’
Past Thursday and Friday, December 10th and 11th 2020 respectively, the Auditor General of the Sierra Leone Audit Service, Mrs. Lara Taylor-Pearce, laid the 2019 and Covid-19 audit reports in the House of Parliament.
Under Sierra Leone laws, the Auditor General is constitutionally charged to carryout audits every year on all public funds expended by all ministries, departments and agencies whether such funds are expended in emergencies or not.
The reports of such audits, according to law, are presented to the House of Parliament, which in turn look into findings and recommendations of the auditors and take necessary actions.
Although these reports have not been made public just yet, sources within the Audit Service Sierra Leone have intimated Sierra Express Media that over 200 Billion Leones was unaccounted for by MDAs in the 2019 audit report alone while a lots of financial improprieties were also discovered in the management of the Covid-19 funds.
Judging from the findings in the said reports according to our sources, many heads of MDAs who the reports found wanting will be having sleepless nights in the coming weeks in trying to find answers to the missing funds in their respective institutions.
