Health Minister Orders Free Health Care Drugs Thieves to be Detained
The Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation has confirmed that the free health care drugs were caught on sale on Tuesday in possession of three business women in Makeni, but that the names of the women have not yet been given to him but they will be surely prosecuted and set as an example to serve as deterrent for such further action.
Mr. Mohamed D Koroma said a lot of Sierra Leoneans are in the habit of selling unauthorized drugs in the country, adding, the deputy minister noted that such inhuman and heartless attitude of Sierra Leoneans must stop and those caught must be brought to book.
The Minister also pointed out that the ministry would have to seriously deal with the matter, and further expressed belief that there must have been connivance between medical store and those involved in selling the free health care drugs as no nurse is allowed to have a large amount of drugs.
He narrated that the free health care drugs are difficult to steal due to the fact that they are all labeled and their destination inscribed to them.
According to report gathered the free health care drugs were stolen by a nurse attached to Makeni Government Hospital and on a monitoring spree by Civil Society the drugs were caught on sale at Makeni market and the three business women who were selling the drugs alleged that the drugs were given to them for sale by a nurse attached at the Makeni Government Hospital; they were however arrested by the police as investigation of the matter is still in progress but they have not yet confirmed to the police the name of the nurse that is involved.
