Leocem Sierra Leone Accused Of Flouting Labour Laws
Aggrieved workers of Leocem Sierra Leone Limited at Cline Town in Freetown has complained management of flouting labor laws by not allowing them to access and enjoy certain privileges as employees.
Speaking to this medium, the helpless employees said, they were sourcing pure drinking pipe borne water from a tap erected in the operation area but the Guma Valley Water Company (GVWC) has cut off the supply chain as a result of the company’s failure to pay water bills.
Workers further complained that, no protective gears provided for them especially nose mask which they said only one supply to each worker per day instead of three per day as labor law mandated.
In Ghana, they said, a full carton of milk is supply to each worker per month but in the case of Sierra Leone, only one dozen is supply to each worker per month after dealing with chemicalized cement, a situation they described as health hazardous.
However, they commended Leocem for subscribing them to the NASSIT scheme but expressed frustration over their meager salary which they said, not commensurate to the heavy task they are performing.
Responding to damning allegations, the Human Resource for Manpower Agency at Leocem, Sulaiman S. Kamara said he did not have much to say but advanced that they are supplying pure drinking packaged water for workers on a daily basis and called on reporters to visit him in his office than to converse on telephone.
