Sierra Leone MPs demand better condition of service
Members of Parliament past Wednesday approved four presidential nominees to serve in various state institutions.
The law makers made fine sentiment about the approved nominees. They however caution the nominees to work in the interest of the country irrespective of the political divide.
Before the approval of the nominees, the Leader of the House and Government Business, Hon. Cidie Mohamed Tunis, said that the nominees were interview based on their educational background, tax obligation, contribution to national development and other related issues.
At the conclusion of the exercise, the Speaker of Parliament, Honourable Dr.Abass Chernor Bundu, on behalf of the House congratulated the approved personalities. He wish them good look in their various engagements, but was quick to caution them to work in the best interest of the country.
The approved nominees are:
- Shaka Abdulai Mansaray (Board Member BSL),
- P/C Alimamy Sorie Kateke (Board Member BSL),
- Sheik Abdurrahman Kamara (Board Member BSL), and
- Alfred Momoh Yatteh (Member, Board of Directors, SLCB).
In another engagement, Members of Parliament demanded better condition of service before they could take their seat to deliberate on proceedings, law makers were heard shouting and banging the tables, pronouncing that they want a better condition of service.
The situation that morning, made the speaker to invite all the MPs present including the leadership of the political parties in Parliament. There and then, the speaker call on the sergeant-At-Arms to tell both the leader of the house and government business and main opposition, All Peoples Congress (APC) party, Hon. Cherinor R.M.Bah, attend the proceedings. The two leaders later emerged and took their seats.
A member of the welfare committee of MPs, Hon.Alhaji Marrah, said that this time round, they need no one to speak on their behalf. He added that they can speak better for themselves, stressing that no leas a person than the Minister of Finance should attend the meeting.
The meeting which lasted for almost two hours at the committee room number one was attended by the Minister of Finance and Deputy. The outcome of the meeting was not made known unto press time.
The outburst of the country’s law makers came two days to the reading of 2018/2019 budget in parliament.
