SLPP snubs CRSG, CSE, PAVI FORT construction companies

Barely over a week ago, the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) Government, through the Ministry of Finance, Works Ministry and the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA), made a total of three hundred and fifty seven billion Leones (Le 357,000,000,000) payment to contractors for various roads constructed across the county.

The various contractors had signed agreement with the former All Peoples Congress (APC) Party Government of Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma for the construction of various township roads across the country. But for over a period of time now, there have been hues and cries among many of these contractors over the failure of Government to pay them for their completed work, for some of the contractors and for the other contractors, to complete their work. Some of them were heavily owed by the Government of Sierra Leone to the point that some even had to stop all works because of lack of funds.

However, the payment which was to be a step in the right direction was unfortunately marred with naked regionalism and corruption as contractors who are working in the north of the country were deliberately excluded from the said payment. Not even a single contractor from the north was paid.

The likes of Pavi Fort, a Sierra Leonean owned Construction Company, who has constructed the Kabala township roads and also the Krubola road which was under construction before the SLPP government put a halt to the project, the CRSG, which constructed the Port Loko township roads and other roads across the north and the CSE, which constructed the Makeni- Kabala road, Makeni –Kamakwie road and other roads are all victims of the regional madness demonstrated by the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP).

While government owes each of these contractors, millions of dollars for their various works done including $13M, $36M and $56M for Pavi Fort, CRSG and CSE respectively, it has been discovered by this press that some of the contractors especially FIRST TRICON, who was paid for purported road project in Bonthe Island  is a complete scam. This medium can authoritatively state that no road has been constructed within the Bonthe Island and therefore no contract has ever been signed between any company and the Government of Sierra Leone that should warrant any payment.

This is corruption to the highest degree as deserving companies, who had done and  are still doing marvelous jobs in terms of road construction are left sidelined and starving of funds they legally have worked for.

As a result of this ugly situation, many Sierra Leoneans especially those from the north, have raised serious question as to why the SLPP big guns from the north including the likes of the Speaker of Parliament, Dr. Abass Bundu, the Chairman of NCP and the National Secretary General of the SLPP, the Minister of Trade, Peter Bayoku Conteh and others have kept sealed lips on this wicked act of their party to sideline contractors in the north.

In subsequent editions, this medium will bring you details of the irregularities that marred the whole payment.
