No Cause for Concern on NASSIT
NASSIT Public Affairs: Deputy Public Affairs officer of the National Social and Insurance Trust (NASSIT), Osman Foday Koroma has told Sierra Express Media that “there should be no cause for concern over the operations of the institution in the wake of the ongoing bid for the headship of the trust, “saying that NASSIT is up and running and that headship or not the company has its operational template that direct affairs at the trust until when the leadership fate will be reached at by a credible panel due October 15.
Some members of the Sierra Leone media are raising concerns that the ongoing headship impasse might adversely affect the smooth operation of the Trust which operates on pensioner’s money. Osman Koroma speaking from a duty station in the provinces, stated “that why it’s good that an institution has an operating system in place and I think that is what NASSIT as an institution has been able to achieve in this short while of its establishment” adding that besides, “we don’t see the issue of headship of the institution as an impasse, what’s is going on right now is by the dictate of the law which will soon be done away with when the decision is reached in few days time”. Mr. Koroma stated that “whatever people’s opinions are, a few days won’t harm a solidly built institutional based agency like NASSIT”.
Koroma pinpointed that “NASSIT boasts of one of the most highly trained and informed staff in the entire West Africa Sub-region which is why every body is aware of our marked successes so far and I don’t see how that’s going to take a plunge on just a few days basis”.Â
Mr. Koroma noted that 99% of all NASSIT ventures have been successful and that the agency has never reneged on its responsibility to pay its clientele and thus have no cause for concern as some media people have had it to be.
In the State Opening of Parliament last Friday, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone Ernest Bai Koroma noted NASSIT as one of the incontrovertible assets his government and the rest of the country is proud of. He reiterated his government’s commitment to use NASSIT to bring to fusion housing infrastructural projects in many of the country’s cities. The President noted to Members of Parliament that “there are too many uncompleted structures in and around Freetown and other major cities. We intend to create schemes through which these houses would be completed. We are also devising modalities to encourage employer guaranteed housing loans for persons in formal employment. Furthermore, we will be introducing micro-mortgage schemes to mobilize resources so that persons engaged in the informal sector could own houses. NASSIT is also implementing pilot housing projects in Waterloo, Bo, Kenema and Makeni. These will demonstrate and test the feasibility of undertaking mass housing investment based on market principles” the head of state enthusiastically addressed the MPs on Friday.
