Armed robbery on the increase at Lumley beach
Lumley beach which is located at the far west of Freetown reported of having a serious increase of crime rate at the beach environment. Foday Kallon a victim who was attacked on Sunday night at about 12: Am, in an interview explained to the Sierra Express Media on Monday 17th May 2010, that about the measure time above he had a stroll in the yard he is staying as a caretaker, when he came out he saw some young men cutting the iron rode pillar which had been in the yard as a demarcating line between them and the other land.
But unfortunately, for him before raising alarm, the thieves had already cut down the 18 iron rod pillars and hauled them away including some household properties like DVD Laptop, shoes and two Nokia Mobile phones. Foday Kallon further confirmed that this is not the first time they have stolen property from that site, as it has occurred about four times now and he had informed the Land lady, Madam Finda Kenieteh, who instructed him to immediately report the matter at beach road police station, he said the matter has been reported to the police.
Sergeant Koroma 2056 of the Sierra Leone Police force attached at the police post told this press that report had meet them, and he also confirmed to Sierra Express Media that crime rate at the beach vicinity is now on the increase stating that some reasons to this house invasion by criminals was as a result of the high presence of idle youths at the beach whom are not actually engaged in any developmental programmes, but just loiter around to grab valuable items from meaningful citizens.
Sergeant Koroma further revealed that the beach used to have a police patrol team, but it had taken a long time now that such robbery incidence to have taken place. He said because they lacked certain logistics to boost the patrol team, at the same time there had been operations service Division O.S.D offices presence which actually was a big helped to the entire Community, but since then they have stop patrolling within that environment it has become a crime zone. Furthermore, he immediately highlighted about issues that are going on in the area particularly on the unceasing robbery matter.    Â
