Characterized By Many Deceptions – Bio’s Free Education Becomes Meaningless
In line with numerous interviews conducted by this Press across the country in conjunction with the flagship programme of president Bio, quite a good number of parents/guardians, teachers, pupils and even the common man are registering their greatest shock and dismay in connection with this purported thing of a free donated quality education. They expressed that the SLPP government should have allowed them to have paid their normal fees, which they are considering minimal as against the colossal sum of school charges paid in treaty with the supply of a book, two (2) books and three (3) books in different schools across the country, thus making the whole programme meaningless to many.
In other interviews, Sierra Leoneans were referencing the campaign statements made by president Bio during the Presidential debate organized by the Africa Young Voices (AYV) that, his free quality education covers fees, text books, note books, Geometry sets, bags, uniforms, school feeding programs, among others, from primary to Senior Secondary School (SSS); but unfortunately, those promises have been completely changed. They cried out loud that, they are now playing on their intelligence by taking them for granted, especially when it has come to the implementation of this deceitful programme. “Now, they are specifying that this is the first phase, in that we should purchase all other school materials for our children/wards with the exception of paying a meager fee of Seventy-five Leones (Le 75,000.00) per annum for our Secondary school pupils. Who is really fooling who? This particular new direction is a disappointment and disgrace to us in the country. They have given wrong impressions to us, as meaningful citizens but their actions as of date proved deceitful and inhumane. This is total embarrassment to us, due to the fact that we have spent all our reserves applicable to schoolings of our children, hoping that the free quality education should have taken care of”. They exclaimed.
Based on the intelligence of this Medium, most of the teachers within the country are dissatisfied in terms of lack of prompt payments, deliberate attempt not to pay their backlogs and the worst of it all, they are asked to contribute at least a thousand Leones (Le 1,000.00) to the free education. In fact, quite a good number of pupils and students are not calling such a flagship programme free quality education. Instead they were referring to it as “school fees free education” when their opinions were sounded. By and large, the commoners are consistently expressing their disappointment that, there is nothing to write home about in line with the cheap strategy this Bio led government has instituted to extort substantial sum of money from donors and the International community as a whole at the detriment of the suffering masses.
