As Purported Free Education Turns Political SLPP Govt Squanders Le 3.4b
Reliable school authorities have intimated this Press that the aforementioned amount that was disbursed for teachers teaching the just promoted SSS 3 pupils have been wrongfully spent on the undeserved teachers. According to closed sources, twenty (20) SSS 3 teachers were selected from each school to teach those categories of pupils, but unfortunately the process was politicized by paying even the JSS teachers and other teachers who were not the rightful beneficiaries of that package among the politically motivated schools that are dancing to the tune of the new direction.
When a cross section of those committed teachers were interviewed by this Medium, we came to the realization that when the issue at hand was taken to the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development (MOFED) together with their respective lists for verification, authorities claimed that it was a mistake but promised to rectify it. Not until today, that worrying issue remains the same.
It could be recalled that on the 20th August, 2018 when that free donated quality education was launched, the Minister of Finance and Economic Development (MOFED) – J.J. Saffa categorically stated that the sum of Le 3.4B has been specifically disbursed to pay those selected SSS 3 teachers for the month of August but sadly enough, no proper monitoring has been put in place to have ensured that the monies went to the correct public servants, that have dedicated their time to impact knowledge on our future leaders. Based on our findings, teachings are ongoing and the undeserved PAOPA teachers are now bogusly intimidating others in the name of new direction with impunity.
Upon conducting a random sampling interview with parents/ guardians, it was disclosed that there is nothing free about this flagship programme (free education) of the Bio led administration, owing to the substantial amounts school authorities are extorting from them on the prefix of school charges and essential materials. Some parents have paid up to the tune of Le 1,000,000.00. Some were painfully registering their dissatisfaction revealing that they have spent Le 650,000.00, Le 780,000.00 to the least sum of Le 480,000.00 for two (2) sets of uniforms, berets, badges and note books, although some paid Le 400,000.00 without any supply.
However, the people are asking this government to find a suitable name for its deceitful flagship programme rather than referring to it as free education and what is really worsening the matter they say, is the word “quality”. They reiterated that as far as they are concerned, the government is making them objects of caricature but they will express their concerns come 2023 presidential and general elections.
