Orange SL discusses e-business with market women

Head of Orange Mobile Money, Madeline Sahr Marrah, explained that she wants women to succeed in doing their businesses as “women are important contributors in the economic and social development of a country”.

She explained the various steps involve when using Orange Mobile Money in doing transaction. Orange mobile money transfer, she said, will help women with lesser burden to be travelling with large amount of money from one place to another in search of what they sell.

Mrs Marrah stated that, with the use of technology or digital in doing their business will expose these women to other women in other countries who are excelling in what they are doing with business advices  and also connecting them with bigger multinational companies in the world.

Director of Sonatel in Dakar, Rokhaya Solange- Mbeng who is in the country, said Orange is a big and a multinational company presence in many countries in the world.

She said the company is engaging these women as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to give back to the community they are operating.

Madam Solange- Mbeng further explained that in Senegal women are doing extremely well when the company exposed them on the use of technology or digital such as face book, watsApp and other internet applications in doing their business.

She said the use of digital has contributed immensely on the development of women to make them self-reliant and to also help take care of their household.

The Director noted that Orange will design programs for these women in capacitating them so that their businesses will make profit and also sustainable.

She said women can be powerful when they use digital to do their business as this will increase their income and also connect themselves with other business people in the world.

One of the women, Binta Kamara thanked Orange for discussion meeting as this was the first business meeting on the use of technology in doing their businesses.

She said most of the market women could do better if they are capacitated on how to manage their businesses at the same time taking care of their homes.

Madam Kamara pointed out that one of the challenges they as market women are faced is accessing of soft loans from financial institutions.

The fish seller concluded that they are also willing to use Orange mobile money in doing their business and also use other internet applications in showcasing their products to their customers and the outer world.

The Director of Corporate Affairs Barry Honnah said that Orange will be holding series of business discussion with business women in the country.
