Armed Robbers Terrorize New London Community

Residents of the New London Community in the Western Rural Area, Waterloo have expressed fear over the alarming rate of armed robbery in the vicinity.

The worried inhabitants are hastily calling on the intervention of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) to restore law and order for the benefit of innocent citizens.

In an exclusive interview with the New London Community Chairlady, Madam Mamusu Conteh, a business Woman told this press that, arm robbery has been one of the major challenges threatening the normal existence of peaceful citizens.

She highlighted that poor road network, lack of electricity supply and absent of pipe borne water which she described as difficult to overcome are other challenges.

The Chairlady explained about the various armed robbery reports they have recorded since the start of the rains and spoke about the thousands of people that have occupied the vast area.

However, Madam Conteh noted that they are seeing many people developing interest to build houses in the New London community as a result of the Wellington/Masiaka Toll Road initiative of former President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma.

She called for collaboration because according to her, the Police alone cannot succeed to reduce or end crime with the help of the civil population.

She recalled recently when several business people have being violently harassed at night in their various homes for money and assets by some unscrupulous people as a result of weak Police patrol team.

“We need the Sierra Leone Police Patrol Team and the Republic of Sierra Leone Arm Force (RSLAF) to reduce the high rate of armed robbery at the Locality”, Madam Conteh noted and appealed to the government to tackle the insecurity matter in that vulnerable zone.
