EPA-SL Sets to celebrate World Environmental Day
The Environmental Protection Agency Sierra Leone (EPA-SL) which is charged with the responsibility of protecting the environment is preparing to join the globe in celebrating the World Environment Day (WED).
The World Environment Day which has been observed since 1972 will be celebrated on June 5th 2018 with the theme “Plastic Pollution”.
This year’s celebration will showcase EPA’s continual determination and commitment in handling environmental issues in line with the new direction of President Bio to promote and protect the environment in various capacities.
The WED celebration aimed at raising awareness on how to protect the environment especially among young people who have taken the lead role in protecting the environment for future used and that the theme for this year will give EPA-SL chance to continue engaging remote communities or slum environs as the raining season is fast approaching with high tendency of flooding due to human activities if proper mechanisms are not put in place.
However, citizens across the country are very much appreciative on the good work of EPA for the fact that they have been carried out several sensitizations and outreach programs in a move to avoid a repeat of the August 14th 2017 mudslide which claimed the lives of many innocent citizens due to poor management of the environment.
The theme “Plastic Pollution” will be at the Centre of celebrations around the planet.
WED is the biggest annual event for positive environmental actions to be taken in protecting millions of people from hazardous attack.
WED is a special day to take action against Wildlife crime and to replant forests. WED is a time UN Environment seeks to make the biggest global call and environmental mobilization for action on 5th June every year.
