Freetown Residents Decry Bumbuna Light

Residents of Freetown have expressed dismay over the output of the long-awaited Bumbuna hydro-electric dam. It could be recalled that this project has taken three consecutive decades for it to come into existence. Now that the first phase of the project has been completed, hopes were high that the blanket darkness that has hovered over the country for a very long time would have suddenly dispersed especially for Freetown residents who are of the opinion that they should be primary beneficiaries of this first phase. However, as wishes were not horses, this hopeful dream has never come to pass as residents of Freetown are still fumbling in absolute darkness.

The conspicuous irony in the Bumbuna light situation is just enough to say that the people of Bumbuna township are living by the side of the river and washing their hands with spittle as the coming into existence of the all celebrated Bumbuna light has not benefited them by all indications.

Indigenes, born and bred of Bumbuna town have expressed their grievances and utter dismay that they have not been benefiting from the regular supply of electricity.

Impeccable reports coming out of Bumbuna town have intimated to SEM that Bumbuna Township, the source where the light is coming from cannot boast of light, except for the area where the dam is located.

Residents of Brookfields community in Freetown have told SEM that at first there used to be a regular supply of light, but now, it is really heart-rending for Freetown  and its immediate environs not to have light, while they were anticipating that the first phase of Bumbuna hydro-electric dam would be enough to salvage the abysmal state of Freetown. They further noted that their expectations of the Bumbuna light was high and hoping that upon completion of the project they were anticipating that life in Freetown and other parts of the country would be buoyant; but today, all that long awaited dream and hope has been shattered.

Today, devoid of party politics, residents of Freetown are getting frustrated on a daily basis over the complete absence of light. Thus, they are calling on Government through the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources to come to their aid before they started looking at the APC regime with contempt.

  • Cheap politics again .How long as Bo town got it electricity facilities ? my question is – are all the Bo town environ benefiting from this electrification. We have a President here who is working tirelessly to make sure things are not as usual. So if it is not cheap politics how do anyone expect everything to be fixed or repaired automatically as if we are a financially rich country. As patriot we have to look at things in all perspective before we start sabotaging. My warning to the saboteurs do not forget that this will surely hunt you back , individual or collectively . I know it is our citizen right to criticized or opposed when thing are going wrong as long as we do it genuinely for the interest of our country .We have to support the government of the day ,be it left or right . Right now some people find comfort in sabotaging the image of the country but lest they forget . Our people are not fools anymore .
