“I Want 85% Votes’’ Yvonne Aki- Sawyerr Urges Supporters
The mayoral candidate for the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) Party in the Municipality of Freetown for the forthcoming March 7th election, and the only female contesting for the seat of Mayor in the municipality, Madam Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr OBE has in one of her routine constituency meetings held on Sunday the 28th of January, 2018 at constituency 118 on Low cost Site 2 Field, revealed her set target of votes cast she hopes to get along with all other candidates of her party including Councilors, Members of Parliament and the Presidential Candidate.
In her statement during the jam-packed meeting that attracted thousands of party supporters, community stakeholders and youths, the Mayor in waiting urged party supporters to stand united and campaign tooth and nail for an eighty five percent (85%) first round victory of the party in the March 7th election. She encouraged the women to reach out to their fellow women in other political parties and bring them on board as she said, out of the registered voters in the municipality, the women amount to fifty two percent (52%) of that population. And with the support of just the women, she and her party would have won the election even before they go into the pools. Madam Yvonne also called on former aspirants for various positions for the party’s symbol to embrace the decision of the party and work towards the party’s success in the forthcoming election.
As she highlighted her plans for the city and country as a whole, the Iron Lady maintained that she will continue to live up to the expectations of the people as she has always done throughout her years of service to the country and the municipality in particular. ‘’ I will put the city in an enviable position if you give me the opportunity to serve’’ she stated, adding that with the support of everyone, Freetown City will be amongst the best in the sub-region and the world at large.
Also making a statement was the incumbent Deputy Mayor of Freetown, Madam Hannah Jaiah, who is also the APC endorsed candidate for 413, thanked her party to have given the ticket to Yvonne Aki- Sawyerr, whom she described as a role model in Sierra Leone due to the different developmental roles she had played back in the days of the civil war in the country to the Ebola insurgence and the Post Ebola Recovery where she exhibited high level of competence and love for the country. She therefore called on all party supporters to vote overwhelmingly for all the APC candidates in the forthcoming elections in order to continue the development strides the party has taken in the last ten years.
Speaker after speaker, including the MP candidate for Constituency 118, Isaac Tarawally, Ward Councilors, former aspirants of various positions for the party’s symbol and First Time Voters Association, pledged their unflinching support for Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr and all the APC candidates in the forthcoming election for a first round victory of the party. They promised to go out in their numbers and campaign for the success of the party in the coming election.
