NATCOM sets the pace to promote young innovators
As part of its mandate to promote the development of the ICT sector in Sierra Leone, the National Telecommunications Commission (NATCOM) has certified and awarded cash prizes to young Sierra Leonean innovators who participated in an innovation competition organized by the Commission, Monday, 22nd January, 2018.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Ag Director General, Ing Victor Findlay assured the participants that the Commission intend to take the initiative to international level by way of showcasing Sierra Leone’s innovative potential and capability. “This is just the beginning of great things to come” he said.
Out of nine shortlisted entries, three were awarded star prizes.
The first Prize was won by 18-year old Hawa Yokie and Fanta Kondeh, who invented the SoWind technology, a combination of solar and windmill to generate electricity for the rural poor 24 hr round the clock.
The Commission intends to provide further support to the winners to help them develop their innovations.
