As defeat becomes inevitable, will Bio Finally Retire after 2018?
Sierra Leoneans, non-citizens, and senior political analysts have analyzed that the would be main opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) Presidential candidate, Retired Brigadier Julius Maada Bio may finally retire from active national politics if he loses the 2018 Presidential and general election to the incumbent All Peoples Congress (APC) party.
Well-meaning Sierra Leoneans believe that for SLPP to lose the next election with Maada Bio’s candidacy is inevitable as it’s evident by the continuous exodus of influential members with their supporters from the party to either defect to the incumbent or join the National Grand Coalition (NGC) party.
It is noticeable to many literate people that Maada Bio should have expanded or increased his chances of winning the next election but his refusal to harmonize with elders of the party may land him and the entire Paopa train in trouble for the fact that all those figures who have shunned the party went away with hundreds and thousands of their supporters.
Recently the former Leader and Chairman of the party, Chief Sumanoh Shebora Kapen pronounced that it is only a miracle that will make SLPP win next election while Franklyn Rogers who have defected already to the APC said they are waiting to see how a handicap could win a one hundred meter raise to State House among able men and women.
We have also witnessed a situation where in the Chief Security Officer (CSO) to Brigadier Bio, Yaribo Bangura and former National Organizing Secretary Kolleh Dumbuya publicly declared support and expressed hope that the APC will win the first round of the 2018 election with no run off.
All those pronouncements that are coming from former diehard decision makers of the party signified that many people including active members have lost confidence in the leadership of the fatherly party.
Above all, it is clear that SLPP has no tussle to choose their flagbearer for the fact that there is no challenger against Bio who is only waiting to be coroneted at the appointed time by his Paopa sympathizers at the detriment of the majority who are wishing the party to move from opposition by winning next election.
