Cholera Caution – Survivors Need Pure Drinking Water states JAFAI CEO
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of JAFAI Support Foundation, has called on well-wishers to provide safe drinking water for survivors of August 14 Mudslide and flooding in Freetown.
Haja Fatima Savage made this disclosure following the warning by the World Health Organization (WHO) that cholera might hit the country if the necessary precautions are not taken like the provision of safe drinking water for the survivors. Her organization, two days after the disaster, provided assorted items including water for the hundreds of survivors to drink. She said pure water gives more life, noting that the provision of pure water would help to prevent the outbreak of cholera amongst the survivors. She expressed the need for Non-Governmental Organizations, the media and Civil Society to advocate on behalf of the survivors for them to get shelter.
It could be recalled that JAFAI has before now dug two water -wells for the Hastings Polio women and youths. Secretary-General of the Hastings Polio Skills Training Centre, Isaac Kamara described JAFAI’s intervention to the water challenge faced by the survivors as a life – saving action at a time experts are predicting the outbreak of Cholera.
