The general public is hereby informed that following the heavy downpour of rain during the past twenty four hours, major flooding and landslide incidents have occurred in various places in Freetown resulting in loss of lives and properties.

The communities of Regent, Sugar Loaf, Motormeh, Kamayama, Kaningo, Dworzark, New England, Kroo Bay, Mountain Cut, George Brook, Big Wharf and Wellington have been seriously affected.

The Government of Sierra Leone is fully seized of the situation and in collaboration with our development partners, is undertaking a coordinated response to provide emergency services to our affected compatriots.

While the Government extends profound condolence to bereaved families, an emergency response centre has already been established at Regent.

In addition, registration centers have also been established at Regent, Lumley, Central and Ross Road Police Station. Affected persons are encouraged to relocate to safer areas and to register to the nearest registration centre.

We salute the bravery of our security sector-the Police, the Army, the National Fire Services and the Office of National Security.

We also commend the Sierra Leone Red Cross and our youths who are in the front line of the rescue efforts.

The Government will provide regular updates as events unfold. Meanwhile, we encourage the general public to stay call and to call the following emergency response numbers for assistance 119 or 117.
