NATCOM Chairman Momoh Konte Fires Back
‘’Procurement procedures are to blame for not submitting financial statement’’
Chairman of the National Telecommunications Commission (NATCOM), Mr. Momoh Konte has reacted to his institution’s inclusion in a black list of dozens of public departments and agencies that failed to submit their financial statements for auditing by making it crystal clear that it was a Software breakdown in March that prevented his institution from submitting their statement coupled with the delay connected in the procurement procedures of the country.
The Connector, as he is fondly called furthered that, the situation was reported to the auditors who were well informed about the issue but the adherence to the Public Procurement Procedures in which they had to wait this long to replace the defunct software prevented his Commission from being audited.
According to the procurement laws of Sierra Leone, every activity that is to be done should be advertised to allow a fair competition from those capable of providing that activity and as such takes time to go through all the procedures which precipitated their delay in replacing the breakdown software. He however assured that they are on course to submit their statement in the next two weeks.
‘’We have nothing to hide’’ he boasted adding that he voluntarily opened the country’s highest-earning public institution to an audit when he took over in early 2015.
