EDSA is a Total Mess Citizens Blast
Citizens all over the country especially in the capital Freetown have branded the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) as a complete mess as a result of the incompetent manner the authority is handling electricity matters. This accusation from members of the public came as a result of the continuous deterioration the authority is facing over the past few months ranging from faulty Apator Meters, non-availability of meters, flip- flop electricity supply among others.
It is increasingly becoming clear that authorities at the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) are incapable of handling electricity business of the country. This is so because since His Excellency the president Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma decided to privatize the energy sector by transforming the then National Power Authority (NPA) to private entities called Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) and Electricity Generation and Transmission Cooperation (EGTC) due to the premium he places on it, the sector has since then continues to degenerate by the day.
In some of the complaints this medium received from members of the public, they alleged that since EDSA started operations, there has always been Flip- Flop supply electricity which they said is causing huge destruction to their electrical appliances. ‘’ the On and Of electricity supply happens more than ten to twenty times in a day or night’’ they stated adding that this is causing serious destruction not only to their electricity appliances but also their homes as sometimes their houses are burnt down as a result of this kid’s way of supplying electricity.
On the area of the non- availability of meters, they alleged that it takes almost a year for one to get a meter after applying for it. ‘’Even when they finally arrived, they are in low quantities that are even not enough for those that applied for them’’, they maintained.
On the area of the faulty Apator Meters, they disclosed that the process of registration is killing people gradually as they always have to go through the stress of standing in long queues on a daily basis. They revealed that even though the authority issued a press release on this issue, what is happening now is far different from what was stated in their release, they bemoan. According to them, the meters that are available for this process are far less than what is needed. ‘’how can they decide to change this system when they knew they are not up to the task?’’ they asked.
They therefore called on His Excellency the President, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma to intervene in what they referred to as a complete and total mess from EDSA in order to save the legacy he has set in the energy sector.
