Addax Employs 4,000 Workers

The Minister of Energy, Ambassador Henry Macauley has informed the public that, an ethanol producing company located in Bombali District, Addax Bio Energy has employed about four thousand (4,000) workers.

The minister made this statement when he was updating Journalists at the Government weekly press briefing in the Ministry of Information and Communication, Youyi Building, Brookfield’s in Freetown on Thursday 29th June 2017.

According to the minister, among the four thousand employees are mostly farmers adding that, Addax is supplying 10Mega Watts to the national grid.

The minister reiterated on Government’s plan to have generating capacity that will reduce the cost of electricity by next year and mentioned that the 2011 Electricity Act mandated the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) to have independent power providers.

He disclosed that 24% customers have added to the network and disputed the fact that Bumbuna Hydro Electric Power is generated by nature i.e., the weight of water turning the turbine that normally slow down to 5 Mega Watt around May. He stated that around August-September, we normally get full 50 megawatts power supply.

However, the minister maintained that some people from the public may not be happy with him because he brought robust reformation style to strengthen the sector. He concluded by extending his appreciation to Engineers and all other staff in the sector for their hard work to reach at this peak adding that he  will always welcome criticism because he said; it is a call to improve services.
