Why Bio should not be SLPP Flagbearer?
Meaningful people in society have been debating over the leader of the Paopa faction of the divided Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP), Retired Brigadier Julius Maada Bio’s fitness to be the standard bearer of the party because according to them, he still has to clean what many described as his dirty image.
The name of Maada Bio is always associated to violence in the political landscape of our society which means even if he was going to be coroneted by his close sympathizers as was planned before appeals court slammed interlocutory injunction restraining the party from holding convention; citizens will still rise to the occasion and cast their vote against him in the yet to be conducted election as a result of the negative perception the public hold about him.
“If he is really curious to be the next standard bearer of the SLPP which is the oldest political party in the country, he definitely will have to rebrand the harmful insight of himself among Sierra Leoneans” a concerned citizen advanced and further raised that, Mr. Bio would have done something vital and meaningful for the country in order to convince all the citizens that voted against him in the 2012 multitier elections so that they will cast their ballot in his favor in the 2018 Presidential election if elected as the flag bearer of the SLPP.
The main problem among die hearted supporters of the Paopa faction in the SLPP according to political analysts is their absolute failure to realize that the good thing they should do as a party is to produce a candidate with clean record who will be admired among the voting population so that the party will not remain in opposition. Other school of thoughts argued that any successful political party should not only possessed leadership that demonstrate respect or obedience but it must also be able to put their differences aside and work towards amalgamating grassroots support to win election.
The Chairman and leader of the crumbled SLPP, Chief Sumannoh Kappen has confessed on several media interviews that his party is in total disarray because there is no respect for elders and that suspension has been slammed against outstanding members because they stand on what they believed.
