Agric Minister takes the lead in city beautification

The Minister of Agriculture Forestry and Food Security Prof. Monty Jones, has on Friday 23rd September 2016 taken the lead in the beautification of Freetown.

The Minister was on the streets on Friday planting flowers and ornamental trees as a demonstration of his Ministry’s efforts in ensuring that the city of Freetown remain  beautify and protected. The exercise started at at Hill Station.

Planting the first tree, He describe the exercise as symbolic and important, noting it is the beginning of an effort in making Freetown a beautiful and attractive city compared to others in the sub-region. He noted that the Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Food Security is working in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other institutions.

He further said that the exercise is aimed at making the city more tourist attractive and also promote the idea of tree planting for the protection of the environment. He therefore called on Sierra Leoneans to engage in tree planting for the protection of the environment. He also appealled to Sierra Leoneans to help in making sure that the trees and flowers are protected.

Prof. Jones said beautification activity will also be extended to other major towns in the country, and added that it is a form of employment for young people. “I hope that in the not too distant future we will employ fifty youths,” he said.
