Property owners take Government to ACC

Affected property owners at the Hillside Bye-pass Road in East end Freetown are reported to have formally complained the Government and Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for not going by the promise to relocate them to another settlement in the  Western Area.

According to the aggrieved property owners, they were not only welcomed by the Officials of the Anti-graft Agency, but their matter was also carefully listened to by the Officials, who considered the issue of property owners along the designated route very pertinent.

The spokesman of the aggrieved property owners, who prefer  anonymity, said   one of the correspondences sent to them from SLRA spelt out clearly that the compensation package of each property owner would contain a cheque and conveyance but to their amazement, only a cheque was discovered in each compensation package.

The spokesman furthered that relocation site plan that was displayed to them indicated basic social amenities like electricity, religious facilities, learning institutions, recreational facilities and well constructed roads at the selected Yams Farm area.

“But to our greatest disappointment, everything has gone the opposite direction because we have learned the selected area at Yams Farm for our relocation has been sold to other people,” the spokesman said.

He added that SLRA demarcated another area for relocation which he said was over two miles away from the highway.

The spokesman on behalf of the other affected property owners called on the President and officials of SLRA to relocate them to an area where they can easily access healthcare facility, good roads and other basic facilities for their normal existence.
