MIC Visits Fiber Optic Sites

The Minister of Information and Communications, Mr. Mohamed Bangura, recently led a team of officials to the fiber optic sites in the Northern Region to examine the level of work done in connecting the fiber cables across the country.

The other officials included the Deputy Minister of Information and Communications, Mr. Cornelius Deveaux, senior officials of the Ministry, Sierra Leone Cable Network (SLCN), ECOWAN and Chinese experts recently.

Heawei Project Supervisor, Mr. James Kobba and team, Coordinator ECOWAN Project and Kelly and Norton (KN) first inspected the Jui site before proceeding to Mile 38, Rogbere, Lungi, Lunsar, Makeni and Mashingbi.

Mr. James Kobba told the delegation that the Fiber Optic ADM co-exists with Sierratel and co-habits with Sierratel, and feeds on their electricity and air conditions.

Heading towards Lunsar, the delegation discovered that the fiber cables were passed over head instead of underground, while the delegation also observed that there were some leakages from the fuel tank at Mashingbi.

The team suggested for backup generators and adequate security to protect the sites.

The Information Minister, by and large, expressed satisfaction over the work done but however advised that a small technical team be put together to highlight the minimal lapses and the Chinese experts consented to correcting their mistakes on the project.
