Minister Warns Police, Military Okada Riders

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Major (Rtd.) Alfred Paolo Conteh (in photo) has issued a stern warning to both police and military personnel abandoning their state duties to take to commercial motorbike riding to disassociate from such unpatriotic practice or face serious trouble.

Speaking at the last Thursday Government press briefing in Freetown, the Minister stressed that his Ministry would fight against lawlessness and indiscipline at all costs, adding that he has for obvious reasons started with the commercial motorbike (Okada) riders in the capital and its environs.

He maintained that ‘Okada’ riders must comply with the basic safety regulations contained in the Road Safety Act, noting that his Ministry would not negotiate with any cliques since armed robbers might use it as an opportunity to request for a Memorandum of Understanding between them and his Ministry.
