Jolak’s Manufacturing Company to invest $1.2m in oil & soap production in Wellington

GM Mukish Patel has disclosed during a public disclosure session on their Environmental Social Health Impact Assessment at Mas Complex Calba Town that the company will create jobs for locals and also increase tax generation for Government.
He said currently the company is under construction and technology installation phase, expatriates and construction engineers are also transferring knowledge to local staff in accordance with local content policy which will continue throughout the project.
He said the company is expected to create more jobs for locals and to also produce vegetable oil of high quality that is affordable to everyone in the country. Additionally the company will produce soap of excellent hygienic quality.
He assured that the company will also improve the community livelihood support through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and applauded the Wellington Community for hosting the company.
A statement from Tamba Emmanuel Nyaka of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) properly explained about the essence of the study which he said is to help to bring out the operations of the company on Environmental issues that are affecting the communities the company operate so as to avoid conflict.
He said EPA has a mandate to ensure that the fulfilment of the statutory requirement from EPA act of 2008 as amended in 2010.
He said the public disclosure is to give an opportunity to the community people to understand the operations of the company before an Environmental License is granted to the company.
The consultant of the study Anthony Davies of ECOSYS Sierra Leone Limited said the study tackles in detail all the environmental aspects, elements, impacts and the mitigation measures, safe guards and risk elimination measures that should be followed or carried out in order to protect mankind the environment and keep the trend safe and secure for future generation.
He said the proposed vegetable oil and soap products are essential commodities that are highly needed in the local market and the overall benefit of this investment is to promote the market for locals selling crude palm oil and also enhancing the number of made in Sierra Leone products.
Hon. Ibrahim Knox Sankoh of Constituency 097 applauded Jolak’s Manufacturing Company for investing in his constituency and also commended the company for their previous donation to the community.
Tamba Kamanda of the Sierra Leone Standard Bureau Quality Control Manager spoke about the mechanism that they will put in place in the quality management system adding that the products will be tested before it goes out into the market.
The company will source the oil from local growers across the country and the waste of the oil is used to manufacture the soap.
Participants for the public disclosure was drawn from wards 350, 349 and 348 within Wellington and Calaba Town an interactive session with the consultants formed a high point of the ceremony.
