Airtel to cough up $1.2 M
The National Telecommunications Company (NATCOM) that regulates telecommunication outfits operating in Sierra Leone, has fined Airtel a whopping US$1.2 million for its poor service delivery.
This was disclosed at a news conference held at the NATCOM headquarters at Regent Road, Hill Station, Freetown, on Friday 11th March, 2016.
According to the Board Chairman of NATCOM, Mr. Momoh Konte, despite several warnings by the regulatory body for Airtel to improve on its service delivery, it continues to provide poor service to the public with apparent impunity.
He disclosed that the mobile company was given seven working days, starting from last Friday to pay the US$1.2 million fine or risk being closed until the fine is paid.
Mr. Konte also warned over mobile companies to improve on their service delivery to the public, noting that their business is to regulate the mobile networks in the country to ensure that subscribers get better service delivery.
As at press time, it was not known whether or not Airtel has paid the whopping fine.
