April 27th, 2010 Independence Message
Fellow Sierra Leoneans in North America, the Diaspora and around the world, on behalf of the APC North America Branch and elsewhere, I want to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt appreciation for the good work of the leadership of our party and president, His Excellency Ernest Bai Koroma. Today we are celebrating the 49th anniversary of our country’s independence. As we remember some of those happy and sad days that went by over the years.  April 27th this year marks another milestone in our country’s existence. This date reminds us of being given the opportunity to run our own business as an independent nation.
Being independent and living independently can be very difficult sometimes particularly when everybody concerned cannot be a direct part of making it work the way it should for the benefit of everybody. However, as a people it is our grave responsibility and obligation to honor our country and its leadership by doing whatever little we can to make things work or provide support to those who can make it work. We can only do this by working as a team. Of course we are bound to have differences and we can have differences and we should have different views, different opinions and different styles but, those differences can only benefit us if we use them collectively to work for the good of our people and country.
Fellow party members, ladies and gentlemen, I want to convey a message of hope to all APC members and other Sierra Leoneans out there that we are one people and we need to always remember that. That no matter how we differ in thoughts and in words we can and should always strive hard to work together for the most time. So I take this opportunity today to call on every APC member (Sierra Leonean) to be patriotic and always think as a SIERRA LEONEAN first in both good and bad times.
I am glad and proud to see the launching of the Free Health Care Programme for Pregnant Women, lactating mothers and children under five in our beloved country. This goes a long way to demonstrate that with good leadership; together we can make things happen. I want to thank our President, all donor agencies and all government officials who worked very hard to make this dream a reality.Â
On that note, I want to congratulate all Sierra Leoneans and friends of Sierra Leone here and everywhere to join our million folks in wishing the best for ourselves and for our country. Thank you all and may the Almighty Allah continue to bless our country Sierra Leone.Â
Thank you all.
AL- Aziz Turay, Chairman, APC – North America
