The local content policy was formulated by government in order to create avenues for Sierra Leoneans to have employment or broaden their economic base among the various employing authorities in the country.
The policy emphasized the use of Sierra Leoneans in all areas of non-technical jobs for which they are qualified.
The employment or use of Sierra Leoneans by big companies does not only help the individual Sierra Leonean to achieve technical experience but also help to boost the grassroot economy of the individuals employed by those companies.
Airtel has now glaringly appeared as one of the major companies adhering to the local content policy of government even by displaying Sierra Leoneans on bill-boards instead of foreigners.
Footballers, Musicians and other Sierra Leonean artists have all been honored by Airtel and appeared on their various billboards placed at strategic areas of the city.
It is only hoped that other companies using foreigners for possibilities reserved for Sierra Leoneans under the local content policy may also now toe the line, as failure to do so constitutes a punishable crime under the local content policy Act of 2013.
