May greed not bring back Ebola!

Ebola, a deadly virus disease has come, killed and is now on its way out. Were there any lessons learnt from this scourge?

Of course the lessons learnt, some of it, are so poignant that many Sierra Leoneans have preferred to call it a “let sleeping dogs lie” affair.

Well, even where the dog may be allowed to lie down it may do well to ensure that the dog itself is conditioned to do what is right.

It is the nature of dogs and all lower animals to be conditioned to do whatever one may want them to do. If the lower animals could be conditioned to perform in a particular way, why not humans to be talked into doing what is right (a relative term, though), given the circumstances of the day.

The Ebola virus disease happened to be one of the greatest challenges ever to this nation, since the abolition of slavery.

Only the Ebola disease was able to take all Sierra Leoneans captive for as long as it was with us.

The lessons learnt were many but the major and must disquieting one was the propensity of Sierra Leoneans to mortgage their birth rights for money.

This greed for money led many of our compatriots to shameful things and for some to even destroy their reputations.

Now that the countdown to the end of the scourge is in the single digit but with the three recent cases in neighbouring Guinea, we pray that this greed for money will not lead some of our brothers and sisters to compromise principles and reverse the gains we have made thus far.
