Queen Elizabeth II visits Sierra Leone 1961
A look back in time – the Royal yacht Britannia sails into Freetown harbour to a 21 gun-salute. Queen Elizabeth II comes ashore and is met by Prime Minister Sir Milton Margai. The 1st batallion of the Royal Sierra Leone regiment form a Guard of honour for the Queen’s inspection.
The Queen’s car drives through the streets as people wave and cheerand Victoria Park is full of people as the Queen drives through. She shakes hands with the mayor and walks up the red carpet whilst dignitaries watch, one lady has gold coins in her hair.
The Queen meets tribal chiefs, and a girl presents her with a bouquet of flowers, and a boy gives the Duke a buttonhole.
