Farmer charged for murder of 70-year old woman

Port Loko, Oct. 29 (SLENA) – Sheriff Conteh of Kamem village in the Maforki Chiefdom has been arraigned before Magistrate Abdul Sheriff on a murder charge. He is accused for the murder of a 70 year old woman, Madam Ya Gaima Sesay of the aforementioned village. Photo of the late woman as was discovered by a team of police detectives in the bush where she was allegedly murdered According to the particulars of offence, the 70 year old lady was murdered in broad day light on Tuesday 15th September 2015. Her remains were discovered in a nearby bush and on the farmland of the accused with a machete wound on her head.

Although the charge was read to him, no plea was taken because of what Court Clerk said it was due to the gravity of the offence. Inspector Sillah is the Prosecuting Officer in this matter. He applied for the matter to be adjourned so as to enable him mobilise and produce his witnesses. He said most of them live in the village and needed to be notified accordingly. He assured that they will avail their presence against the adjourned date.

While granting the application of the Prosecution, Magistrate Abdul Sheriff expressed determination to commence effective trial. He therefore urged all those connected in the matter to make sure they come to court on time as he would not be in any position to waste the precious time of the court. The accused was subsequently remanded at the Correctional Centre in Port Loko. Effective trial is slated to commence on Monday next week, when the Prosecutor will take the first witness.

Information gathered outside the court yard suggests that the 70 year old woman was murdered in cold blood while trying to resist a rape attempt.
