Statistics Sierra Leone Presents 2016-2018 Strategic Plan
The data collection institution, Statistics Sierra Leone (SSL) has presented their 2016-2018 strategic plan to the budget discussion committees.
The power point presentation was performed by the SSL Director of Finance, Administration and Human Resources, Mr. Lansana L. Kanneh in the presence of the Director of Budget in the in the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development (MOFED) Mathew Dingie at the Miatta Conference Hall, Brookfields in Freetown on Monday, 13th October, 2015.
Before Mr. Kanneh’s made his submission, the Statistician General Statistics Sierra Leone, Mohamed King Koroma introduced his entourage including Mr. Andrew Bob Johnny, John Yambasu and numerous Census Officers.
The Director of Finance, Mr. Kanneh forwarded that SSL was created by an Act of Parliament in 2002 and the Census Act of 2002 as a corporate body to conduct population and Housing Census in the country.
He disclosed that SSL vision is to create a sustainable National Statistical system (NSS) for the coordination and production of official statistics that will assist informed and evidence based decision making while maintaining that SSL Mission statement as mandated under the statistics Act 2002, is to coordinate, collect, compile, analyze and disseminate high quality and objective official statistics to assist informed decision making, and discussion within the Government, business and the media, as well as the wider national and international community.
He accounted that, they have not only conducted two data users’ conferences in March 2014 and July 2015 or carried out pilot census in April-May 2015 but that they have also completed the cartographic field work in May 2013 to July 2014.
He mentioned that the final pre-test of the 2015 population and Housing Census data collection instruments had been completed adding that eighteen thousand Enumerators kits including vests, bags, torches, pens have been procured and expected in November 10th 2015.
The Finance Manager reiterated that the data entry program drafted and being tested and supplement that the main data collection will take place on from the 5th to 18th December 2015.
On the social statistics, Mr. Kanneh revealed that during 2015, the section undertook data collection on cross border Ebola and crime Statistics. He emphasized on how they were able to maintain all SSL plant and equipment like motor vehicles, bikes, and SSL office building.
He further explained that they have also provided office accommodation for SSL district offices and he concluded by mentioning that supporting the operation of SSL Council is one among the many activities of the office of the Statistician General.
