From Ebola epidemic to flood disaster Lord have mercy!
Sierra Leone is now suffering from two troubles with one God, the Ebola Epidemic and the rain floods which have wrecked havoc in the country’s capital city, Freetown and in some areas of the provinces.
While the nation keeps groaning under the bondage of the Ebola scourge, the flood disasters have come and added insult to injury, a situation which tempts this press to believe that the country is in need of spiritual deliverance.
The succession of calamities befalling this nation has worried this press and we are of the strong view that there is need for divine intervention, apart from our own physical efforts, to remedy the sad situation.
After losing nearly four thousand compatriots to the dreaded Ebola mass killer virus, we have lost a considerable number of other fellow citizens to flood disasters while we are trying to recover from the ravages of the Ebola pestilence.
Such succession of tragedies has a potential to wreck this nation and we are, therefore, advising that all Sierra Leoneans go on bended knees and pray to the Lord Almighty to have mercy on us as the two catastrophes are borne out of His natural arrangements, though, in the case of the flood disasters, we have our own faults. If we continue to deforest the country and transform drainages to permanent dustbins and erect structures on water ways, we will continue to have flood disasters triggered by God’s arrangement of seasonal rainfall.
While praying against the natural disasters, we should also help ourselves by refraining from illegal activities that contribute to the disasters and put in place structures that can prevent their recurrence.
For instance, government must now evict people from all disaster prone areas and relocate them and put in place stringent measures to check the rampant random deforestation of this nation.
