BRAC-SL donates 5000 liters of chlorine to communities in Kenema district

BRAC-SL an international Nongovernmental organization during last week distributed over 5,000 liters of chlorine to schools, churches , mosques and peripheral health units in the Kenema district.

Delivering some quantity of chlorine to the Islamic Secondary School in Kenema, the south -Eastern regional health coordinator  for BRAC – SL, Ann Fannah said her organization has been carrying out Ebola sensitization activities since the outbreak  last year.

She said her organization conducted street theatre sensitization programmes in the Sisteen chiefdom across the district educating the people on preventive measures, avoiding body contact and reporting of the sick to the nearest health center. She further stated that BRAC also conducted sensitization on safe burial and referral mechanisms and washing hands with soap during periods of lock down last year.

Ann Fannah said as partner to the Islamic Secondary School in Kenema they have provided a water well and toilet facility for the school as part of their drive to maintain hygiene in schools. She said they were in the school and other school this time around to continue hammer home the message of hand washing and also to give out liters of chlorine to various institutions to continue the practice of hand washing even though Ebola is not in the district. Ann Fannah told the school authorities not to be complacent as the virus is still in the country

Receiving the items the principles of the junior secondary school and the senior secondary, Mr. Bockarie Kanneh and Mr Mohaned V.S. Konneh   respectively thanked BRAC for their kind support to the school and promised that the items will be utilized for their intended purpose

Mr. Bockarie Kanneh said they have received a lot of support from BRAC and they are hopping to receive more even from other organizations.

The General Overseer of The Nations Evangelistic Ministry in Kenema and other parts of the Globe Evangelist Joseph M.B John Bull extended appreciation to BRAC for reminding the people of hand washing as most people are becoming complacent and have even forgotten about the devastating effect of Ebola.

The district Health Education Officer for Kenema District Mr. Michael Vandi said a total of 124 PHUs will benefit from the distribution of chlorine donated by BRAC. He said they have started the distribution and that will continue to carry out sentisization on ebola until the disease is finally irradiated in the country.

Mr. Vandi  aslo joined hands with the school authorities to thank BRAC for complementing the effort of Government in promoting health and hygiene in the country.
