R4D-SL raised Le14million for road work in Kenema

The Road For Development Sierra Leone (R4D-SL ) and the community in Kenema in collaboration with the media has raised the sum of Le 14 million through awareness raising campaign in a meeting held on Saturday, 12thSeptember 2015 at the Kenema city council hall in Kenema. R4D-SL is a Civil Society consortium Organization that was established since 2009 with the objective to ensure that roads within the Country are adequately addressed as an important tool for infrastructural development in the Country through various strategic engagements that would help address the dilapidated conditions of Kenema City by major stakeholders in the road sector including the government.

According to the Regional Chairman of Civil Society East, Augustine Sannoh, their organization had critically survey and monitored the ways and manners in which infrastructural activities has being going on throughout the Country since 2010 up to date. With analytical evidenced of Kenema City being the victims amongst the Cities in the Country they as non –political advocacy Organization has viewed it as agenuine concern that has prompted them to stand tall with a campaign group called Kenema City Roads and Streets Development which was launched over the weekends at the Kenema City Hall Reservation Road in Kenema. This development backed-up by video footage of various Cities showing comparison of road networks across the Country and Kenema being the most deprived and deplorable city that seem to be abandoned by Authorities that are charged with the responsibility of national delivery services.

In response, the ONS Regional head East, Abdul Karim Will , thanked the CSO’S and its collaborating partners for what he referred to as national patriotic characters shown by the people of Kenema for willingly contributing monies to assist the National Government as they are tied with several development assignment.

In further development, the Honorable Member of parliament representing Consistency010 Francis A. Kaisamba welcomed the move made by the various organs on behalf of his colleagues in the House of Representative with an admonishing statement that the poor roads network in the Kenema City has always been a major concerned to all MPS while assuring the Public that their concern has already been discussed with the central government and every measures are now in place to see the kick start the process as the country goes closer to the dry season. He further said, had it not been the EVD outbreak the issue of deplorable roads in the City would have been on its minimal rates indicating several lobbies they did as MPS in order to make the roads better. The due amount is planned to be officially handed over to the President, H. E. Ernest Bai Koroma as a supporting element in order to move Kenema out of poor roads network.
