Is Joseph Samba Keifala a Serious Mayor?
When you enter the Eastern provincial city of Kenema and experience the deplorable roads with their thousands of potholes, you will be tempted to ask whether that city has a serious mayor.
What completely beat Parrot’s imagination, when the wise bird visited Kenema, was the opprobrious state of the pothole-laden road leading to His Worship the Mayor’s office at the Kenema City Council. No serious Mayor will allow such a disgraceful road to continue leading to his mayoral office even if parliament impounds his or her budget for accusing Members of Parliament of demanding bribes.
Is Keifala not the Mayor who, when campaigning, boasted that he had many caterpillars he would use to pave the least access road in Kenema if voted in as father of the city? If yes, then to where have the countless caterpillars vamoosed?
How does Joseph Keifala feel being the Mayor of a city rated as the worst provincial city when other cities like Bo and Makeni are luxuriating on well paved roads and enjoying many other infrastructural developments that Kenema City is yet to dream of? Charity begins at home; if Keifala cannot repair the short road leading to his office, are residents of Kenema expecting such a Mayor to rehabilitate the city’s battered roads which have become a cause for the concern of even the Civil Society?
Parrot is also asking the Mayor when he intends completing the new city council building which has been under construction for donkey’s years. And what about the scrap vehicles, when will they be repaired?
In fact, Keifala should bless his current Chief Administrator, Daniel Sahr Momoh who has changed the administrative face of the council. CA Momoh inherited a council office that had been transformed into a trade fare with traders scattered all over the council office the vicinity of which was littered with fermented garbage that had not been disposed for ages. CA Momoh’s predecessor, Bockarie Buanni and Keifala were having a cat and dog relationship, a situation that crippled their administration.
