The event which was organized on September 14th 2015 at the YWCA Hall attracted religious leaders from across the twelve (12) districts in Sierra Leone.

Delivering statement, the Chief Executive Officer, FOCUS 1000, Alhaji Mohamed Bailor Jalloh, expressed happiness over the large turnout of women to the program which he described as a demonstration of gender sensitivity and he articulated gratefulness to all those who have not only continuously supported but also shown respect for the organization.

“Religious leaders are the strongest and most powerful pillars in FOCUS 1000 because of their ubiquitous presence in the country,” said Mr. Jalloh who assured the public that through religious leaders they would be able to reach everybody across the country. He informed that DFID is the major sponsor of FOCUS 1000 which, he said, has expressed willingness to support activities of the organization up to the end of this year, adding that the funding agency is very pleased with activities of the organization especially those of religious leaders.

He called on both religious groups to always work in consultation to avoid misconception and he admonished them to always report their activities on regular basis. He advised them not to lose hope in the fight against Ebola until the menace is finally eradicated from the country. The CEO encouraged participants to preach messages against stigmatizing or discriminating Ebola Survivors because they have gone through a painful experience.

Making a brief statement, the National Coordinator, Christian Action Group (Christag), Rev. S. Koroma noted that it is the responsibility of District Coordinators to give correct information to FOCUS 1000 to do their job well and she suggested that each district be holding meetings and reporting on quarterly basis for information to flow among members.

The National Adviser, Christag and Islag, Sheik Abu bakarr Conteh, who doubles as Chairman Board of Directors, maintained that there is no other religious set up that has done great job in the fight against Ebola than the two religious bodies. “The work we have done is a complete sacrifice for the nation,” the Chairman declared and he urged religious leaders to always demonstrate truth and responsibility for the good name of religion.
