Dr. Brahima D. Kaba made the disclosure during a recent courtesy call on his Sierra Leonean counterpart, Alhaji M.S Kargbo at the Sierra Leone Embassy in the Northern District of Al-Maseef in the capital, Riyadh.
As part of its role to protect pilgrims during Hajj, Saudi Arabia announced last year a ban on Muslims from the West African states that were stricken with Ebola from performing Hajj over infection fears.
Saudi Hajj Minister, Dr. Hajjar Bandar, the envoy said, has given Liberia the green signal to go ahead with all necessary arrangements regarding his country’s participation in this year’s pilgrimage.
Liberia, the Ambassador Kaba added, was given the green light due to the recent WHO declaration that “the country is free from Ebola.” During the visit, the two Mano River Union envoys also discussed various fields of development to serve the mutual interest of the two sister countries.
Meanwhile, over 45,000 intending pilgrims from the West African state of Nigeria have arrived in the holy Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the 2015 Hajj, an official at the Nigerian Embassy in Riyadh said last night, quoting the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
In another sad development, the Head of the Medina Operations of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Dr. Bello Tambuwal, yesterday disclosed to reporters that 5 Nigerian pilgrims have died since they arrived for the pilgrimage. According to Tambuwal, four of the deceased died in Medina while one died in Mecca.
