Pathologist Testifies on Marie Samura’s Death

The Government Consultant Pathologist attached to Connaught Hospital, Dr. Owiz Simeon Koroma, on Thursday, 20th August, 2015, testified before Magistrate Siray Wurie of Court no.1 on the death of a 51 year-old female teacher, Marie Samura.

Mr. Koroma recalled the 18th June, 2015, when, upon instruction from the Chief Medical Officer and request of the Corona, he carried out a postmortem on the body of Marie Samura of 20 Kumba Lane, Gbendembu, Goderich village in Freetown.

He maintained that the body was identified to him by the relatives of the deceased including her elder brother Inspector Samura.

On the conclusion of the Autopsy, Mr. Koroma said he reduced his finding to a post mortem report which, he said, is in his custody, adding that he issued out a medical certificate on the cause of the death and a copy was given to Police while the original document was given to the relatives of the deceased for proper burial.

He revealed that the pathological cause of the death was unnatural and the manner was homicide due to fracture cricoids and thyroids bone due to Manual strangulation, adding that the deceased also suffered spinal cord injury at the cervical vertebrae as a consignment of dislocation.

The matter was prosecuted by Sergeant Fofanah IG and was adjourned for next hearing on August 24th 2015.
